On May 12, Team Blake Shelton singer Jake Worthington gave a rousing performance of “Good Ol’ Boys” by Waylon Jennings.

Jake’s got a lot of support back home in his small town, with his school friends wearing “Team Jake” shirts and putting blown-up photos of their classmate onto popsicle sticks to use as masks. Therefore, his dedication song is a thank you to his friends in La Porte, Texas.

Not only was the song a fun and upbeat way to pay tribute to his buddies, but it really embodied the 17-year-old’s old-school country sensibilities. Most of these dedication songs seem to be sappy ballads dedicated to family — not that there’s anything wrong with that! — so it was nice to have something you can dance to in the mix.

Usher says he loves how Jake represents country and, based on his performance, he could be representing it in the finale. The R&B/soul artist even says that, while he’s not that into country, Jake sold him on it with that final note. Adam Levine loves how real and genuine Jake is, and is happy to see the right people made it to this point in the competition. Blake tells his mentee he couldn’t be prouder and says that performance made it clear Jake needs to be on the radio right now.
