While Tyrion found his trip to the Wall intriguing in Season 1, he will not be returning there anytime soon. Nor will he be executed. So does that mean he will be found innocent in his trial by combat?
Nope, guilty as can be! So what happens?
In the books, Oberyn Martell (Pedro Pascal) volunteers to be Tyrion’s champion in his trial against the Mountain, Gregor Clegane. While Oberyn is an accomplished fighter and has his way with the Mountain, he eventually lets his emotions get the best of him and loses the fight, and his life. Tyrion is found guilty, but while he is awaiting his sentence he is sprung from his jail cell by Jaime and Varys. Tyrion is then spirited away to Essos where he begins the next phase of his story in exile.
