Big Bang Theory Scores Most-Watched Finale Ever, Has More Viewers Than The Walking Dead’s Top Episode

We we’re continually shocked by the cable ratings records The Walking Dead broke with its fourth season, which wrapped on March 30, but it turns out the post-apocalyptic drama still has nothing on some of its top broadcast counterparts, specifically CBS’s The Big Bang Theory, which just had the most-watched finale ever.

Entertainment Weekly reports that a record 16.3 million people watched Big Bang’s May 15 Season 7 finale, which also earned an uber-impressive 4.8 rating among adults 18-49. By comparison, The Walking Dead’s Season 4 finale was watched by its own record of 15.7 million viewers, 10.2 million of which were in the 18-49 demo.

The Walking Dead’s most-watched episode ever is still last October’s Season 4 premiere, which garnered an impressive 16.1 million viewers, just 200,000 viewers fewer than Big Bang’s Season 7 ender. The fan-favorite CBS comedy may have scored more viewers overall, but like we noted above, given that it appears on a broadcast network (as compared to TWD, which is on cable) the margin between TWD’s Season 4 premiere and Big Bang’s finale really isn’t all that great.

Do you think TWD Season 5 has what it takes to top 16.1 million viewers and even Big Bang’s 16.3 million finale record? Tell us your thoughts in the comments below!

The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October 2014 on AMC.
