Even the most casual Dance Moms viewer can probably recite two of the ALDC members’ names: Maddie and Chloe. And that’s for a good reason — these talented little gals are Abby Lee Miller’s prized students, and because of that, they get the most pressure placed upon them. Thus, a semi-rivalry was born… but is it an actual feud, or is this all for the show?
That’s the question that we were left asking after this week’s episode of the Lifetime reality series, “The Battle of Maddie vs. Chloe.” The show touts their facing off as the crux of the past four seasons, but we have often seen the girls as friends, with a competitive side. Let’s take a look at the components, shall we?
For one, Abby Lee is the one bolstering the young ladies’ competitive spirit. She sets it up so that Chloe and Maddie are always competing with one another, even nudging Maddie into the same age category as Chloe during competitions so that she has the chance to beat her. Abby also uses solos and pyramid placement as rewards for the girls, and she often favors Maddie.
But it’s not all on Abby. There’s also the mom factor — with Maddie’s mom Melissa being a little too intense towards her, and Chloe’s mom Christi acting overprotective of her little girl. It’s all a parenting choice, however, but the mom’s meddling can cause friction between their daughters.
At the end of the day, it appears these girls are still true friends, despite what production will have you believe. We just hope that they can work together, versus against one another, as they’re both so talented!
