Whoopi Goldberg Says Jay Z Had the Right to Hit Solange Back in Elevator Fight (VIDEO)
Everyone and their mother has their own theory on what caused Beyoncé’s sister Solange to lash out so violently at brother-in-law Jay Z in that now-infamous post-Met Gala elevator ride. So of course the outspoken ladies of The View had to break the footage down on the show this week, and it was Whoopi Goldberg’s reaction to the clip that really got people talking.
All of the women agreed that that there must have been some pretty serious verbal exchange between Jay and Solange in order for her to want to attack him, kicking, hitting, and even spitting in his direction. But while the rapper remained calm and kept his hands to himself, Whoopi says he didn’t need to.
“I think Solange was ready for him to do whatever he was going to do,” the host provocatively stated. “This is the thing, if anybody hits you, you have the right — I know that many people are raised in a very different way but if a woman hits you, to me, you have the right to hit her back.”
Bold opinion! Barbara Walters then asked Whoopi to clarify her meaning on that, to which she responded, “If I slap a man, he has every right to slap me back.”
These are some pretty incendiary comments. For one, we realize Whoopi is not advocating for violence here — Solange was not warranted to use force, no matter the case. But we’re glad that Jay was smart enough to not react back physically. But do you think he would have had the right to?
