Shonda Rhimes Received Honorary Doctorate at USC, Speaks at Commencement (PHOTO)
Our little Shonda Rhimes is growing up! The Grey’s Anatomy creator received an honorary doctorate degree from her alma mater, USC, over the weekend when she spoke at their graduation ceremony on May 16.
According to the USC website, Shonda already holds an MFA from the school, and after her many accomplishments in the entertainment industry, she proved herself worthy of becoming Dr. Shonda Rhimes. Not the same kind of doctor that Meredith Grey is, of course, but it still counts.
And on her big day, Shonda tweeted a photo from graduation, where she posed proudly with the 2014 valedictorian in her cap and gown.
“Feeling very proud and powerful with valedictorian Jana Shapiro at USC’s graduation!” Shonda said.
This isn’t the only honorary doctorate Shonda’s receiving this year. She’s also slated to be the commencement speaker at Dartmouth College next month, where Shonda received her undergrad English degree. At the ceremony, she’ll get her second doctorate of the arts degree. Impressive!
Sigh. If only Shonda could have spoken at our graduation. It would have been an even more memorable day — with a way less boring speech.
