Macklemore Apologizes For His Anti-Semitic Costume: “A Jewish Stereotype Never Crossed My Mind” (VIDEO)

Next time Macklemore goes thrift shopping, he should probably make sure he doesn’t buy anything that would offend his fans. The “Same Love” singer raised eyebrows last week when he took the stage in Seattle in an outfit that many saw as anti-Semitic — and now, Macklemore is apologizing for the insensitive oversight.

The outfit in question? It included a fake wig and beard, as well as a huge fake nose. You can see it here and make the call for yourself, but many fans are saying it looked a little too much like he was trying to dress up as a Jewish man for it to be a coincidence.

But a coincidence is exactly what Macklemore is insisting has happened. The rapper promises he didn’t intend to upset anyone — he was just trying to dress up in a crazy outfit he randomly selected before his show. Since the concert was supposed to be a surprise, he wanted to disguise himself so no one in the crowd would recognize him before the big reveal.

“I’ve always loved dressing up and have been doing so my entire career,” Macklemore wrote on his website Monday. “The character I dressed up as on Friday had no intended culture identity or background. I wasn’t attempting to mimic any culture, nor resemble one. A ‘Jewish stereotype’ never crossed my mind.”

“I respect all cultures and all people,” he added. “I would never intentionally put down anybody for the fabric that makes them who they are. I love human beings, love originality, and… happen to love a weird outfit from time to time.”

So what do you think: Are people overreacting, or were you also offended by Macklemore’s outfit?
