What Is The Walking Dead’s “Skull Fridays”? Join the Ritual!
There are still five months to get through before the premiere of The Walking DeadSeason 5 — but that just means there are also five months of Skull Fridays to celebrate in the meantime.
What’s Skull Fridays? Maybe you've seen the tweets out there from fellow TWD fans.
Exec producer Gale Anne Hurd talked about it in a Q&A with AMC. They mentioned how Hershel Greene (Scott Wilson) created Spaghetti Tuesdays (and moved it to Wednesdays), and asked Gale if there were any fun weekly rituals for the cast and crew on the TWD set.
"We do Skull Fridays,” Gale said. "So, on set, you’ll find the crew wearing skull earrings or skull T-shirts — and I dotweet photos every Friday with a#SkullFriday hashtag. It’s been embraced by the fans, so they pay tribute as well and take photos of themselves and their kids and tweet those with the hashtag.”
If you click on the hashtag, you can see examples of past Skull Friday tweets and photos, including the one shown with Gale and Lauren Cohan (Maggie Greene) from last July’s Comic Con. As random set rituals go, it’s not bad, and it’s easy for anyone to join in. So when the next Friday hits, go ahead and find a skull accessory or whatnot and join the Twitter party. Happy #SkullFriday in advance!
The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres in October on AMC.
