We don’t know how, if at all, Matthew Morrison (Mr. Schuester) will be involved in Glee’s sixth and final season, but we’re happy to report that the 35-year-old actor will be very busy in the coming months regardless, because it was just announced that he has joined the cast of a movie called Tulip Fever.
This casting news comes to us courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter, which also notes that Judi Dench was recently added to the large cast as well. According to THR, Tulip Fever is set in 17th century Amsterdam, which makes sense given the mention of tulips in the title. “The story follows a married woman (Vikander) who begins a passionate affair with an artist hired to paint her portrait. The lovers gamble on the booming market for tulip bulbs as a way to raise money to run away together.”
The plot is certainly interesting and unique, but given the caliber of talent involved we actually think this flick has plenty of promise. Rounding out the cast is Alicia Vikander, Dane DeHaan, Jack O’Connell, Holliday Grainger, Christoph Waltz, and Zach Galifianakis. Models Cara Delevingne and Cressida Bonas (who is an ex-girlfriend of Britain’s Prince Harry) are also expected to appear in the movie.
Tulip Fever was adapted from Deborah Moggach’s romance novel of the same name by playwright and Shakespeare in Love writer Tom Stoppard. Judi Dench will play the “Abbess of St. Ursula’s, a rescuer of orphan children” while Matthew’s character is “drunken bohemian artist Mattheus.” That’s certainly a big departure from buttoned-up Mr. Schue!
Oh, and for those of you that are curious, Prince Harry’s ex will play Mrs. Steen, a merchant’s young wife.
