Pretty Little Liars has stayed away from major character deaths for the most part, but it sounds like that will change in Season 5 of the teen mystery drama. PLL showrunner Marlene King took to Reddit to take part in an AMA yesterday and she let drop a death-bomb that has us seriously worried for our favorite characters. What did she have to say?
“There's one significant biting of the dust this season. One call I won't want to make to an actor. I have to make the calls to tell them they are dead…” Marlene teased when a fan asked how many characters would bite the dust this season. When asked if PLL would kill off a “major major” character — specifically any of the Liars, significant others, or parents — she responded: “I could never say never. So Maybe.”
Yikes! Let’s break this down. First of all, the fact that Marlene said the actor phone call is one that she “won’t” want to make implies that the death hasn’t yet been written, which probably means it will come in the second half of the season — in the Season 5 finale, if we had to place bets. As for the identity of the character on the chopping block, we’re almost afraid to speculate. We doubt PLL would kill off any of the Liars, but everyone else seems to be fair game...
Given that PLL demonstrated they’re not afraid to kill off the Rosewood parentals when someone murdered Mrs. DiLaurentis in the Season 4 finale, might we see another Liar mom or dad bite the dust? (Please not Ashley Marin!)
It would just be cruel to kill off another of Emily’s loves, so we think Paige and Ali might be safe. As for the other significant others — nope, we can’t even think about this painful possibility. We are kind of worried about Mona and Melissa, though. They both seem inextricably tangled in the “A” game in dangerous ways, especially the latter given that so many of her friends from the N.A.T. Club have been killed off and the fact that she seems to have a big secret involving the girl buried in Ali’s grave.
Which “significant” character do you think will be dying in Season 5? Sound off in the comments below!
