How will Jenna react to Shana’s untimely death? Marlene teased: “It’s a great storyline that’s going to play out. I know Tammin [Sursok]‘s been tweeting — she’s back on the show this year, and we’re so excited to have her, and you will find out that she had true feelings for Shana. She comes back broken and devastated.” We actually feel really bad for Jenna right about now. Sure, she’s done some pretty terrible things in the past, but so has Ali and we seem willing to give her another chance. Like Ali, Jenna has also had to endure a lot of heartache in the past few seasons: going blind, almost getting drowned, going blind again. Shana’s death is just another in a long line of traumas for Rosewood’s iciest teenager.
Of course, Jenna isn’t the only one who will be affected by Shana’s death. Aria will have to grapple with the reality that she killed Shana. Even though it was in self-defense, Aria is going to be traumatized by what happened: “I would say, out of all of the Liars, she is just inherently probably the most compassionate one, and I think that that was really why we made the choice for her character to have to go through this,” Marlene said. “And the fallout of the emotion, even though it was self-defense, is going to be very difficult for Aria to take. Her guilt will consume her.” Yikes! Sounds like both Aria and Jenna are heading down some pretty dark paths in Season 5.
