Now that Stannis has saved the North, he wants to shore up support among the Northern lords, and he thinks his meal ticket is Jon Snow. He offers to legitimize Jon as a Stark, which would make Jon Lord of Winterfell, in exchange for throwing the North’s support behind Stannis. Jon thinks about it, but ultimately decides to keep true to his vows to the Night’s Watch. It’s a good thing he does, because he is then selected as their new Lord Commander.
As the boss, Jon sends Sam away to Old Town with Maester Aemon and Gilly to train to become a maester, since Aemon is super old and the Night's Watch is going to need a new maester soon. Jon starts to pal around with Melisandre a bit as well (he does like redheads), and she begins to think that he is the savior she’s been waiting for, not Stannis. Jon also negotiates a lot with the Wildlings, giving them the uninhabited lands just south of the Wall. This seriously irks his black brothers, and they eventually form a mutiny, stabbing Jon a bunch of times. Jon’s fate is left unclear, and we’re betting that’s where he’s left off in Season 5.
