Some people are just begging for a look at the flowers.
The Walking Dead Season 5 is now filming, and AMC hasn’t officially renewed the show for Season 6. Obviously it’s going to happen, but they haven’t done it yet. But they also haven’t canceled the highest-rated show on television.
For whatever reason, some people without more fulfilling hobbies decided to fool as many fans as they could with a post marked "Walking Dead Season 6 Cancelled by AMC." A couple of sites updated to warn people away from the online hoax, but the pranksters still bragged that they had "trolled" 3,240 people. Congrats on that.
Every so often hoaxes come up — some, like this, are intentionally false, while others are just bad rumors spread by misunderstandings or games of telephone gone wild.
Remember the one not too long ago about Norman Reedus dying? Thankfully, rumors of his death were greatly exaggerated. Or the photos that got spread around of dead Beth Greene (Emily Kinney) and dead Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus)? Those pics were from the actors’ previous TV and film projects, but if you don’t know that, you might buy into it. There was also a recent rumor about Andrew Lincoln (Rick Grimes) filming with a green screen arm, which led some fans to think he might lose his hand in Season 5, but that was also refuted. And now there’s a major death rumor that may or may not … well, may or may not be who knows what.
TWD Season 6 has yet to be made official, but that doesn’t mean fans aren’t already talking about it. Scott Gimple is expected to break the showrunner curse and return, and there’s talk that perhaps we might see Negan around finale time. But that’s nowhere near confirmed either, just a possible rumor if they follow the comics’ trajectory. Or they could save Negan for Season 7. (Hopefully not after that, though.)
In the meantime, rest assured that AMC will renew their highest-rated show for Season 6 — and maybe they’ll make that official in October, around the Season 5 premiere.
