Pretty Little Liarsupped the body count in the Season 5 premiere with the death of Shana, and we don’t think this show will ever be done with unexpected character deaths — at least not until it’s wrapped its final scene. With that mandate in mind, we speculate about who might be biting the bullet in Season 5 and why they make the list of potential victims…
We love Melissa Hastings (Torrey DeVitto) (partially for Spencer’s sake and partially for her panache), and are seriously worried the elder Hastings sister will die before this season ends. She is the keeper of the season’s biggest secret of all: who killed the girl in Ali’s grave. Heck, she might even be the one who killed the girl in Ali’s grave, which spells all kinds of trouble for this overachiever. Add this to the fact that the N.A.T. Club seems to be getting killed off one-by-one, and Melissa’s chances at survival drop even further. Eek!
We’re always worried about Ali (Sasha Pieterse). People try to murder her all the time — and that’s only accounting for the fraction of the people who dislike/abhor her. She also happens to be the biggest spinner of secrets this side of Westeros and celebrated her return to Rosewood by crafting a huge lie, which is never good. Furthermore, after the murder of her mother in the Season 4 finale, we’re beginning to think the “A” game is not only connected to her, but to her entire family — which seems to put her in even more danger. Basically, we wouldn’t throw that tombstone away just yet.
“A” doesn’t seem like the type to indulge competition, and Mona (Janel Parrish) just openly declared herself as Ali’s chief antagonist. How will “A” react? Probably not well (especially if “A” is, in fact, Alison). We could also see the mysterious villain(ess) using Mona as an eventual scapegoat for his or her terrorism of Ali and the Liars — and everyone knows the best scapegoats are the silent kind.
Sorry, dude, but this show likes killing off minor characters and you are the perfect choice. Your death would cause chaos in Rosewood, pain to some of our favorite characters, and cast even more suspicion on the DiLaurentis family, which increasingly seems to be at the center of this whole mess. Plus, if Mr. D. is actually serious about never letting Ali out of his sight again, then “A” is going to have to do something about that. It could seriously get in the way of her stalking.
