The Unauthorized Saved By the Bell Story Airing on Lifetime This Fall — Will You Watch? (VIDEO)
Cue the obvious, but accurate, "I'm so excited! I'm so scared!" jokes, because the network known for its amazing, sensationalist dramas and biopics has The Unauthorized Saved By the Bell Story all set to air this fall. Just in time for back-to-school season, September 1, we get to see Lifetime's take on the lives of Mark-Paul Gosselaar (Zack Morris), Lark Voorhies (Lisa Turtle), Tiffani Amber-Thiessen (Kelly Kapowski), Mario Lopez (A.C. Slater), Elizabeth Berkley (Jessie Spano), and Dustin Diamond (Screech).
BuzzFeed has the scoop on the film, which is partially based on Dustin's hyper-salacious, veracity-challenged memoir of his adolescent years, Behind the Bell. Dustin blames a ghostwriter for various factual errors in the memoir, which claims that everyone slept with each other except Dustin (who is very well-endowed, the book claims) and did a whole mess of drugs. Lifetime says they filled in the gaps left by Behind the Bell with brand-new interviews conducted specifically for the film.
The biopic is already cast with basically True Crime reenactment actor versions of the original SBtB gang: Dylan Everett (Degrassi: TNG) as Mark-Paul, Sam Kindseth (Shameless) as Dustin, Julian Works (Paranormal Activity: The Marked Ones) as Mario, Alyssa Lynch as Tiffani, Tiera Skovbye (Supernatural) as Elizabeth, and Taylor Russell McKenzie (Blink) as Lark.
No word on whether we get a fictionalized version of late NBC President Brandon Tartikoff, who notably guest starred on the "No Hope With Dope" episode, but we dream-cast Paul Giamatti. For the record.
We're pretty excited for the Saved By the Bell cast to get the Liz and Dick treatment — but we wonder how Zack would feel about the whole thing. Where's a camera to address when you need it?!
