Pretty Little Liars Burning Question: Is Sydney Working For “A”?
Never trust the new kid on the swim team — well, at least not in Rosewood. Last night’s episode of Pretty Little Liarsintroduced Sydney Driscoll (Chloe Bridges), a teenage girl who has just moved to Rosewood with hopes to make a splash on the high school swimming team. She also has a lot of questions for Emily (Shay Mitchell), which means we have a lot of questions for her. Most pressingly: is Sydney working for “A”?
Let’s face it: “A” needs a new insider now that Shana is out of commission...permanently. It seems that she has already recruited a new spy to infiltrate Rosewood High and the Liars ranks. Sydney has the whole eager beaver innocence act down pat, but don’t think we don’t see through her inexperienced swimmer ruse and her ability to play Paige and Emily off one another for information. Do we sound paranoid? If we do, it’s only because we know how things work in this town: if you’re not with the Liars, then you’re an “A” Team suspect. Besides, what kind of family would willingly move to Rosewood at this point? This town is on murder, like, 922. There’s got to be an explAnation behind Syd’s relocation.
On the other hand, would “A” really pull the same move two minions in a row? Shana claimed to move to town to help Ali, only turning against her once she fell for Jenna, but we’re not so sure. Was Shana always working for Uber “A,” always a double agent passing on information about the Liars and Ali to whoever is behind this whole thing? If so, it seems unlikely that Syd is pulling the same scheme, if only because it’s sloppy. Plus, we kind of want to believe in Sydney’s innocence about the “A” game and all of the craziness that is Rosewood, if only because it is so refreshing in a town where everyone is constantly side-eyeing one another. Syd’s character could be a nice change of pace.
Just because Sydney might not be working for “A,” doesn’t mean she’s not hiding anything. There are plenty of other reasons why Syd might be interesting in Emily. Could this have something to do with Sara Harvey, the teenage girl who went missing from a nearby town and who is the frontrunner in the contest no one wants to win: Who is Buried in Ali’s Grave? Last season, the Liars reached out to Sara’s friends hoping to figure out if she might be the mystery corpse in question. It seemed like a bit of a wasted storyline at the time, but now we’re not so sure. Was the show just setting us up for the eventual appearance of one of Sara’s friends in Season 6? And, if so, what is Sydney hoping to find in coming to Rosewood?
Do you think Sydney is working for “A”? Why or why not? Sound off in the comments below!
