Darren Criss Serenades Prop 8 Couple on Their Wedding Anniversary (PHOTO)
Darren Criss (Blaine) plays one of the most popular gay characters on television today, and it turns out that his support of the gay community goes way beyond his work on Glee. The 27-year-old actor, who is currently on hiatus from the FOX show, grabbed his guitar and sang some songs at Paul Katami and Jeff Zarrillo’s Wedding Celebration in Los Angeles on June 28.
No, Darren hasn’t taken a side job as a wedding singer during his time off, but he did belt out a few tunes at Paul and Jeff’s recent celebration because they happen to be a very important gay couple. It just so happens that Paul and Jeff were one of the two plaintiff couples in the Prop 8 lawsuit that restored marriage equality in California on June 26 of last year. They got married two days later at Los Angeles City Hall, so the celebration they held this past weekend marked the pair’s first wedding anniversary.
And what better way to celebrate one year of marriage than to have Darren on hand to sing a few songs?!
Darren wore a grey suit and blue tie for the occasion, and sang at the mic with his guitar in hand while the happy couple danced in front of him. Like his co-star and friend, Chord Overstreet (Sam), Darren was also sporting some serious facial hair. We don’t know what it is about these Glee guys and their hiatus beards, but we hope they shave ‘em off before the show’s sixth and final season starts filming soon.
