Robin Williams Checks Into Rehab to Maintain Sobriety — Report (VIDEO)

Robin Williams is playing a little defense today. His rep tells TMZ that while the actor has, as rumor had it, checked into rehab it’s only to make sure he maintains his sobriety and not because he’s already fallen back into bad habits.

The 62-year-old is at Hazelden Addiction Treatment Center near Lindstrom, Minnesota, TMZ reports. He’ll be staying there for several weeks.

After working back-to-back projects, Robin is simply taking the opportunity to fine-tune and focus on his continued commitment, of which he remains extremely proud,” his rep tells TMZ.

Robin’s struggles with addiction have been well-documented throughout his career.

Described by The Guardian in 2010 as a “big-drinking cocaine addict,” he kicked the bad habits upon the birth of his first child in 1983. Robin stayed sober for two decades before he began drinking again while on location in Alaska.

“I was in a small town where it’s not the edge of the world, but you can see it from there, and then I thought: drinking,” he tells the UK publication. “I just thought, hey, maybe drinking will help because I felt alone and afraid. It was that thing of working so much, and going f—k, maybe that will help. And it was the worst thing in the world.”

While Robin didn’t revisit cocaine because “I knew that would kill me,” he has struggled to get back up on the wagon since the 2003 relapse. Here’s hoping this time in rehab will help Robin in that fight!
