Like this season as a whole, this episode revolved around Alison (Sasha Pieterse). She's back in school, and she spent the first half of this episode trying to make amends to those she hurt in the past. From trying to convince Paige (Lindsey Shaw) she really does repent to telling Emily (Shay Mitchell) she had feelings for her (and getting her to act on those feelings, OMG!), Ali ran the gamut of apologies. But does she mean it, or is this all just a way to get back into power? That's the question, and boy is it an interesting one. Sasha Pieterse continues to play the part to perfection; we feel sorry for Ali one moment, distrust her the next.
And then there was the Mona (Janel Parrish) and Ali confrontation. We love seeing these two face off. They're two of the scariest characters on the show, and this scene was bubbling over with anger. The fact that Mona then turned it around to use against Ali was just perfect. We could watch them battle forever. Ali may be slipping, but we have a feeling she'll have another move to make soon.
Meanwhile, two major characters came back to town. Jenna (Tammin Sursok) is clearly devastated by Shana's death (great work by Tammin Sursok, by the way), so Aria (Lucy Hale) reached out to her. But what is Jenna's end goal? How does she know Sydney? When exactly did she team up with Mona? So excited to find out more!
Then there's Caleb (Tyler Blackburn). He's back with a new look and a darker attitude. Clearly, Ravenswood changed him, as fighting otherworldly forces tends to. Poor Hanna (Ashley Benson) isn't taking it well (read: she got really drunk), but at least it meant Mama Marin got something to do. Love you, Ashley!
Plus there's the shocker that Mrs. Hasting is leaving Mr. Hastings — and she's taking Spencer (Troian Bellisario) with her. It's clear Mrs. Hastings thinks her husband did something very bad... and got Melissa (Torrey DeVitto) involved, which is what she really finds unforgivable. What exactly have the Hastings done before? What secrets are they hiding? We love this family.
But the really highlight of the episode was the last 10 minutes. We learned who was in Ali's grave (some random Radley patient who we're sure will end up having a connection to someone), and "A" made their first big move of the season: blowing up a car. And Toby's house. Yeah. Talk about a major OMG moment.
Overall, we loved this episode. 4.5 stars!
