A mom-to-be didn’t quite get the reaction she expected from a recent selfie she posted online while wearing a brand-new maternity dress. It turns out, she stole that dress from a local shop, leading police right to her.
According to local news channel WSILTV News 3, authorities say that 27-year-old Danielle Saxton of West Frankfort, Illinois, posted a Facebook photo of herself wearing a maternity dress that police say was stolen from a local boutique a mere hours earlier.
Kert Williams, the owner of Mortie’s Boutique, stated, “What she stole was a very distinctive leopard dress...Her excuse was there was nobody in here. We were in the back working, and that she could just take it. You know, not really much of an excuse there.”
Kert soon announced the theft on the store’s Facebook page, leading users to quickly match Danielle’s photo to the missing dress. Police say that when they went to arrest Danielle, she had the stolen clothing in her possession. She has since been released from jail.
Police Chief Shawn Talluto told News 3, “When you put something out there, it's a matter of minutes before it can go viral, and it can go to the world."
As for Kert, he is thankful for the security cameras that were installed six months ago. He has already caught three other female shoplifters just by posting the surveillance video to Facebook.
Now, we’ve heard of pregnancy brain, but this mama wins the prize!
