Will Chris Colfer’s Land of Stories Series Become a Movie Franchise?
Chris Colfer’s (Kurt) status as a New York Times Bestselling author was earned when he released his first book, The Land of Stories: The Wishing Spell, back in 2012, but that was only the beginning! With three succesful books now under his belt (and two more on the way) Chris is finally considering turning TLOS into a movie franchise.
In 2013, Chris released the second book of the series, The Land of Stories: The Enchantress Returns, and that book soon landed on the revered New York Times Best Sellers List, debuting at No. 2 and spending 11 weeks in the top 15 for Children’s Middle Grade books. And now we’re hearing that Chris’ latest book, The Land of Stories: A Grimm Warning, helped earn the series another amazing honor. On July 16, Chris tweeted the fantastic news. “The Land of Stories is the #4 NYT Best Selling SERIES and top middle grade series! Highest books on the list without a film franchise...yet!,” he tweeted.
So why no film franchise yet? Chris explained his position on that matter during the Sway in the Morning Radio Show on July 7. “When I first started I said absolutely not, because it was a book about storytelling and reading, and I didn’t want anyone to think I was writing a book because I was hoping that it was just going to become a movie,” he said. “That was never ever my intention and I really wanted it to have a life as a book before. I hate that movies are seen as the conclusion of a book series.”
But as his latest tweet suggests, it looks like Chris could be having a change of heart. “It’s become so much bigger than I ever thought, that now I’m starting to take those meetings,” he continued on Sway in the Morning. Color us intrigued!
