Jennifer Lopez Gets Newly Discovered Mite Named After Her
In news of the gross, Jennifer Lopez has a dubious new honor to add to her already impressive résumé: Jenny from the Block got a newly discovered critter named after her. Unfortunately for the pop diva, we’re not talking about anything cuddly, cute, or in any way endearing. Nope. The American Idol judge got her very own bug. How’s that for an early birthday gift? (Jennifer turns 45 in just a couple of days.)
The newly discovered aquatic mite — official name: Litarachna Lopezae — was discovered living in a coral reef off Puerto Rico, which, being the birthplace of Jennifer’s parents, is where the J.Lo connection comes in. That and the lab’s love of her music.
“J.Lo’s songs and videos kept the team in a continuous good mood,” Vladimir Pesic, University of Montenegro biologist and lead author of the new study, told The New York Times.
We’re not sure what’s more hilarious to imagine: Jennifer’s face upon learning she has her very own mite or a bunch of white coated lab rats shaking their booties to “Luh You Papi.”
You can see the little mite with the big booty for yourself over at the NYT. Then head to the comments to tell us what kind of bug (if any) you’d like to have named after you!
