George R.R. Martin Spills on The Winds of Winter — Who Will Open the Book?
If you’re anything like us, you’re desperate for any tidbit you can get from the upcoming Game of Thrones book, The Winds of Winter. Like, honestly, we want that book more than Tyrion wants sweet, sweet revenge or Arya wants to kill people or Jon wants to know something.
So while it’s not much, the little spoiler George R.R. Martin spilled during his visit to Comic Con has us all a-twitter. What’s he say? Read on to find out!
When asked what George makes of fans who are planning to stop watching the show once it catches up with the book (so, you know, like yesterday) George, who lest we forget is a co-executive producer on the show, said he encourages “everyone to watch the show” and “to read the books.”
“The question of ‘So you can experience the story in its true form’ is kind of a loaded one,” he explained (via HitFix). That’s like wondering how many children famous heroine Scarlett O’Hara had since it differs between the book and movie versions of Gone With the Wind. A good example from Game of Thrones? Robb Stark’s wife, Jeyne Westerling.
As readers of the books know, Jeyne is a far cry from the feisty Talisa of TV fame. In the books, Mrs. Robb Stark doesn’t get pregnant and isn’t brutally murdered at the Red Wedding. Nope, she’s alive and heartbroken last we heard; expect a more detailed update in the prologue of The Winds of Winter, adds George. But she won’t be the POV character, he clarifies, which is good news for Jayne since George typically kills off his POV prologue stars.
And in even better news, George says he’s passing on writing an episode of Season 5 (boo!) so he can concentrate on finishing The Winds of Winter (yippee!).
What do you make of this update? Excited to hear from Jayne or just excited for anything related to The Winds of Winter?
