The Bachelor

Bachelor in Paradise Contestant Sarah Herron — Why Does She Have One Arm?

While Sarah Herron didn’t ultimately win Sean Lowe’s heart during his season of The Bachelor, the ad executive did get something better — our bid for the gal most likely to be our bestie in real life. Seriously, can’t you just picture sharing your deepest secrets with Sarah over a bottle of vino?

So now that the 27-year-old is a contestant on Bachelor in Paradise, we thought it was time to reacquaint ourselves with the pretty blonde. As you know, Sarah has an incomplete left arm — a trait she says actually helped her to snag the first 1-on-1 date with Sean. But what is the reason for the missing limb?

While still in the womb, Sarah had what is called amniotic band syndrome, which is when part of the amniotic sac ruptures and fibrous bands from the amnion entraps one or more of the baby’s limbs. In this case, her left arm was tangled in the bands, which constricted her circulation to the point of amputation, and she was born with only the upper half of the arm.

That all being said, the SoCal gal has never let this stop her from pursuing adventure through activities like hiking, ziplining, and swimming. You go girl!
