Emma Stone Back in Talks to Make Broadway Debut in Cabaret (VIDEO)
And finally, the toast of Mayfair, Fräulein Sally Bowles… played by Emma Stone? E! Online reports that the 25-year-old actress is once again in talks to make her Broadway debut in Cabaret, for which she would replace Michelle Williams as the down-on-her-luck nightclub singer.
The musical tracks the performers and patrons of the seedy Berlin nightclub Kit Kat Klub — including Sally, who falls for an American writer — as Nazi Party rises to power and threatens the Jewish characters' existence.
If you recall, Emma was originally circling the part back in April 2013 but had to bail over scheduling issues. Michelle took the role instead, and she's been taking the stage every night opposite The Good Wife's Alan Cumming — who plays the hypersexual Emcee, having played the same part in the musical's 1998 revival.
Like that 1998 production, this current iteration of Cabaret is housed at the legendary Studio 54, which poses as the Kit Kat Klub. This revival began previews in March and had its grand opening in April. Its run has been extended to January, but Michelle's tenure ends November.
To paraphrase of Sally's songs, maybe this time we'll be lucky… and Emma will stay!
