Kim Kardashian Defends Smartphone App Amidst Angry Parents’ Complaints

Kim Kardashian’s smartphone game, Kim Kardashian: Hollywood, may be quite addictive, but don’t blame her if your wallet is feeling a whole lot lighter as of late.

With millions of avid fans spending their hard-earned cash to gain status in the game and subsequently freaking out upon realizing what they’ve done, Kim is giving gamers a few words of advice.

During an appearance on TODAY, Kim told Matt Lauer, “You just have to make sure that your parental controls are all set … I think you just have to be responsible, and don’t have your credit card linked to where your kid can just spend if they want to, or ask permission."

While Kim may be calling for more diligence from parents regarding their kids’ spending, the game is still on track to make a whopping $200 million this year, much to the chagrin of those who feel their little ones have been duped by the game’s in-app purchases.

Recently, author Ayelet Waldman ranted about the game’s predatory practices, writing, “Whoever designed the Kardashian Hollywood game is an evil scumbag to end all scumbags. Why am I not surprised? Preying on children.”

The writer, who is married to famed novelist Michael Chabon, went on to claim the game had lured her son to spend money. “Evil, vile Kardashian Hollywood tricked my 11 yr old into spending $120 in 2 days,” she wrote. “He's crying hysterically. Pox on those f—kers.”

Do you think apps like the Kardashian Hollywood game are predatory, or do parents need to keep a tigher rein on their kids' smartphone habits? Share your thoughts below!
