Below Deck’s Eddie Lucas Talks Coming Back, Regrets, and Dating On Board — Exclusive
Living and working on a luxury yacht sounds fabulous — but thanks to Bravo’s breakout hit Below Deck, we learned that’s not always the case. The reality series’ first season showed us that while there are the free exotic trips and steamy inter-crew hookups, there’s also the demanding charter guests and mess-making millionaires. And no one knows this better than show star Eddie Lucas, who is back for all the open water madness.
Not scared off by Season 1’s drama, Eddie is on board (pardon the pun) for the show’s second outing. In fact, Eddie tells Wetpaint Entertainment that he was more than ready for the new challenge. As the ship’s new bosun, the 29-year-old is now in charge of all of the deck operations and the crew… and that’s how he likes it.
“This new position is a big reason why I came back,” Eddie admits. “I wanted to prove to myself that I could do this very demanding job.” But he also had an ulterior motive: “We filmed in the middle of winter, so escaping the freezing Baltimore weather was a nice perk.”
And while a lot went down in the first year, this handsome boatsman is happy with how it ended. “Not at all,” Eddie answers, when asked if he has any regrets. “I am very proud of the work that I did on the M/Y Honor.”
It’s not all smooth sailing for the East Coaster, however, as he’s still enduring the struggles of a long-distance relationship while docked in paradise. “[It] is not easy,” Eddie admits. “Trust is the most important thing you can have in any relationship, and it is even more important when you are so far apart.”
Another way he makes things work? Communication. “On most luxury yachts you have WiFi, so you are able to call home, video chat, and email. It’s important to communicate with your significant other back home and reassure them that even though you are traveling around, you are still thinking of them.”
Oh, and for those crazy kids thinking about getting busy below deck? Eddie cautions strongly against that. “Relationships on the boat are easy — don’t get in one.” Easier said than done!
Below Deck Season 2 airs Tuesdays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
