Though Kate Plus 8 went off the air in 2011, Kate Gosselin — and ex-husband Jon — have hardly disappeared from public attention... for better or for worse. And now, after three long years, Kate and her huge brood of sextuplets and twins are returning to where they got their reality TV start: TLC. Yep, the show is back full-time, and it’s premiering in just a few short months!
If you’re thinking that we just had a season of Kate Plus 8, you’re probably remembering the two-part special that aired in June. The controversial mom was her signature candid self, talking about how it was “never my intent to portray myself as superwoman" and that she struggles “behind closed doors.” As heartbreaking as that special sounds, it worked — as over 2.1 million viewers tuned in to see how Mady, Cara, and their six little brothers and sisters were doing.
It’s that success that likely drove TLC to order the full series pick-up. Starting in December, we’ll see cameras follow Kate and the kids while they travel to Boston and explore New England on their family vacay. Bring on the Freedom Trail and Duck Tours!
What else will the Gosselins be getting up to? Just like any mom, Kate will be prepping her kids for another school year, this time with the twins entering eighth grade (take a moment to soak that one in) and Alexis, Hannah, Aaden, Collin, Leah and Joel entering fourth grade.
One person you won’t likely be seeing on the series is the children’s father, Jon, who divorced Kate in 2009 after 10 years of marriage. Though he clearly has no issues with returning to reality TV — Jon and his girlfriend appeared on Couples Therapy in early 2014 — the tense relationship (or nonexistent one, that is) between him and Kate has played out very publicly in the media.
Here’s hoping that all of that negativity is left at the door for this series.
