It’s hard to believe we only have one episode left of the Pretty Little Liars summer season. (Say it isn’t so!) But the summer finale airs next Tuesday, and — as one of PLL’s epic mid-season enders — it’s sure to leave us reeling. Get a head start on your OMG moments with this spoiler guide. Here’s everything we know about Season 5, Episode 12 (“Taking This One to the Grave”).
Someone will die. The summer finale promises that someone will die, and it look like that person will meet a bloody end. The promo for the ep shows Holbrook presiding over a crime scene, saying: "The amount of blood in the house would indicate that the victim's wounds were fatal. We have ruled this a homicide." Hanna looks particularly upset about it. Is the victim someone she’s close with?
Someone will get arrested. In the promo, we see Holbrook bursting into The Brew to arrest someone — and the Liars seem pretty upset about it. Is it one of their own? Is the Rosewood P.D. finally coming to some conclusions on all of the murder cases?
Someone thinks Alison is “A”. Well, a lot of people probably think this, but — in the promo — Aria asks someone (Mona?) in seeming disbelief, “You think Alison is ‘A’?!” Um, yeah. Where have you been Aria? Emily and Hanna both floated this theory last episode.
Emily v. Alison. We know that Em has already declared her defection from Team Ali, but it seems like she’s putting her money where her mouth is in the finale. In the promo, we see her and Ali in a mini-confrontation. But it’s not all hostility. In the Canadian promo, we see Emily trying to reason with Ali: “I don’t want things to be like this,” she tells Ali, who gives a devilish smile that only the camera can see.
Mona’s Army assembles. In the Canadian promo, we see Mona on the phone telling someone: “Send out a code ‘A’. She’s plotting something big.” We assume Mona is mobilizing her army against Ali, but will it be enough? According to Paige in the promo, “Ali is building an army of her own.”
Spencer is an accessory. Spencer’s borrowing a page from Aria’s Book O’ Accidentally Murdering and understandably freaking out about her part in Bethany Young’s death. “In Melissa’s story, I’m an accessory to murder,” she says in the Canadian promo.
Officer Toby! Either Toby is taking a side job as a male stripper (yes, please) or he’s already part of the Rosewood P.D. In the Canadian promo, we see him in full uniform, teasing Spencer: “Are you looking for trouble?”
Hanna’s lying. Just when we thought things were good between Haleb! In the Canadian promo, Caleb calls Hanna out on lying to him. What is it this time? Is Hanna keeping mum about the new information in Bethany Young’s murder? There are so many secrets to choose from.
Ezria embrace. After a half-season of angst, Ezria seems to be back on track. In the Canadian promo, we see Ezra hugging Aria. This looks like it comes outside of the murder scene. In a promo photo for the episode, we see Ezria baking together. Oy vey!
An unlikely ally. According to the synopsis, with the Liars “feeling trapped” by Ali and “A”, they “turn to an unlikely person for help.” Our money is on Mona. Not only has she been forging connections with the Liars in recent episodes, but she and Spencer seem to be on some kind of mission in these promo photos. Both girls are wearing nurse outfits and seem to be skulking through the halls of a hospital. Love it!
Holiday time. In this promo photo, we see Hanna and Emily hanging out amidst boxes of holiday decorations. Is it Christmas time in Rosewood or is Emily doing some spring cleaning? Given that we’re getting a Christmas special and the other promo photos, we think it might be the former. Does this mean the Christmas episode will pick up directly following the summer finale?
Aria’s getting messy. In another promo photo, Aria is looking guilty about some red liquid she’s dropped on the floor. Given the nurse — possibly Mona or Spencer? — hanging out in the foreground, we’re guessing this comes in the same mission that has the Liars breaking into a hospital — or Radley?
Paily reconciliation? This promo photo of Paige standing on a balcony next to a snowman is just screaming romantic resolution for Paily. Maybe we’re projecting our own hopes and dreams for the characters here, but we’re thinking Say Anything, we’re thinking Romeo and Juliet, we’re thinking every romantic film that involves some kind of heartfelt speech to someone standing on a balcony. Who’s joining Team Optimism?
