Miley Cyrus's appearance at the MTV Video Music Awards had people talking again this year — not because she was twerking — but because she had a once-homeless man accept her award and give a speech raising awareness to Los Angeles's homelessness problem.
However, as Daily Mail reports, Jesse Helt, 22, is actually not homeless, as many media outlets have reported. He has a mother who wants him home with her in Oregon — not that anyone but Jesse necessarily knows his reasons for leaving home — and an arrest warrant waiting for him there, too.
Jesse was arrested in 2010 on criminal mischief and trespassing charges. He served 30 days in county jail but seems to have skipped out on his probation, says Daily Mail.
The site also reports that Miley bought Jess a ticket home to Salem, Oregon, following the VMAs.
Apparently, Jesse moved to L.A. to pursue a modeling career but was always welcome home — or so his mother, Linda Helt, tells Daily Mail.
"Jesse's had ups and downs like anybody else," Linda explains. "He didn't wanna give up and run on home to Mommy, but only he knows the reasons. That's for him to say … It was his choice. He was always welcome. He could always come back any time. If he needed help, I'd help him. We help one another."
Perhaps Jesse wants to rebuild his life now — following his moment in the spotlight!
