Fans of CBS This Morning were probably scratching their heads after yesterday’s show because many people believe they heard Gayle King — you know, Oprah’s BFF — say something that sounded like “I’m gay.” Now the journalist is clearing the air and confirming that she did not say “I’m gay,” she said “I’m OK.”
TMZ caught up with the co-anchor and O, The Oprah Magazine editor and, of course, asked her about what she had supposedly said on the air. Almost more surprising than what she had to say was how excited she was to see the paparazzi.
“Now, did it really sound like that to you, really?” Gayle asks the cameraman. “But honestly, this is the thing: I didn’t say that. Charlie and I were joking around and I said, ‘I’m kidding, I’m kidding, I’m OK.’”
Seems plausible enough to us, girl! The cameraman then follows up asking for Gayle to officially say whether she is gay or not — so much for boundaries, huh? Thankfully Gayle treated the question with respect and shoots down the query as elegantly as we’d expect from any of Oprah’s pals.
“If I was gay, I’d tell you. I’m sitting next to Charlie Rose — I’m trying to get a date with him. Why would I sit next to him and say I’m gay? It’s so silly,” Gayle continues. “I’m not gay. If I was gay I’d be the first person to tell you and I would have said it years ago. I have no hangups about it, I’m not embarrassed [or] ashamed of saying it if I was. Charlie and I were making a joke. I never said ‘I’m gay’ I said ‘I’m OK.’ I have to go back and look at the tape.”
There you have it, folks. Gayle isn’t gay, she’s just OK! OK?
