Norman Reedus Explains Origin of Daryl Dixon Gay Rumors
Doesn’t it seem like the recent chatter about whether or not The Walking Dead’s Daryl Dixon (Norman Reedus) is gay came out of nowhere? If you agree with that statement, then Norman is right there with you.
While the 45-year-old actor has said that the possibility of Daryl being gay was something initially broached by TWD’s first showrunner Frank Darabont, he understands the seemingly sudden interest in his on-screen character’s sexuality.
As Norman explained to E! Online at last week’s TWD Season 5 premiere party in Los Angeles, “They cross-reference some of the characters in the comic book with us and there’s a character in the comic book named Jesus who is gay and he’s a total badass.” Since there’s no Daryl Dixon in the TWD comics, Norman clarified, “I think that’s where that came from.”
Norman also says that, for now, the gay chatter about Daryl is just a rumor, but if the Powers That Be decide to take the character in that direction, he has made it clear that would be perfectly fine with him. Comic book creator Robert Kirkman also revealed that AMC would be on board with a gay Daryl as well, so long as it served the story.
Do you think Jesus serves as a partial inspiration for Daryl? What do you think about the possibility that Daryl is gay? Tell us your thoughts below!
The Walking Dead Season 5 premieres on October 12 at 9 p.m. ET on AMC.
