Bachelorette Season 8’s Alejandro Velez’s Brother Has Passed Away at Age 30
Sad news for one of Bachelor Nation’s members, Alejandro Velez. The contestant on Season 8 of The Bachelorette has lost his older brother, Dan, at just age 30.
Alejandro, who is a founder of Back to the Roots and was eliminated on the fifth episode of Emily Maynard’s season, announced the news on Facebook, writing, “We lost my big brother, Dan Velez, Halloween night around 9:30pm when he slipped and fell off his balcony, bumping the back of his head in a way that instantly took his life.”
Trying to make sense of the loss, Alejandro continues, “Losing my brother will forever change me — many feelings have been going through my mind over these last few days — from anger to peacefulness to fear to confusion to joy to helplessness. The one that keeps floating to the top each and every day, however, is an overwhelming feeling of love. I am so lucky to have had Dan with me as a mentor, best friend, inspiration, cheerleader, ass kicker and role model this long.”
Alejandro and his family are trying to make something positive out of the tragedy by starting a scholarship in Dan’s name. Dan was a well-known casting director, who co-founded and was president of Dream Big Casting/Space Station Casting Studios, according to Deadline. The Dan Velez scholarship will help to fund up-and-coming actors.
