Dancing With The Stars

Amy Purdy Previews New Book, On My Own Two Feet — Get It December 30

Dancing With the Stars Season 18 runner-up Amy Purdy is following in the footsteps of her former pro partner, Derek Hough. Derek released his book, Taking the Lead, in August, and now Amy is preparing for the release of her book, On My Own Two Feet, which comes out on December 30.

Amy, 35, previewed the memoir in an exclusive video on People.com.

As you may already know, at age 19, Amy contracted meningitis and almost died. In the book, she writes about how she "crossed over" in a near-death experience, feeling like she was given the choice to live or die. "I was on my death bed," Amy says in the video, "and I remember hanging on to these words, 'Don't be scared. You are going to live an amazing life,' and I have."

She is living an amazing life. However, her illness led her to lose both of her legs below the knee. But she continued snowboarding as a double amputee and just took bronze at the 2014 Winter Paralympics, right before taking second (silver?) on Dancing With the Stars. She's won over a whole host of new fans, from Oprah to Deepak Chopra.

In the video, Amy says she wrote this new book because "I wanted to share with people my journey from losing my legs to going through all of these amazing adventures and getting to where I'm at today." She added that her hope is “that people will take away that we are here to live this amazing journey and to experience as much as we can and to love and to give and to be passionate. And everything we go through — whether it's good or bad or a challenge or exhilarating — everything will make sense in the end."

So it won't be like watching Lost. (Kidding!) Congratulations to Amy on what sounds like an inspirational memoir. Will you check it out?
