Here's some news that's not going to delight anyone. As if it's not bad enough that Glee will be ending after Season 6, we're now learning that the seasons might be even shorter than we realized.
Futon Critic is confirming speculation that Glee Season 5 will consist of only 20 episodes, rather than the customary 22. Ever since Fox announced that this year's Glee season finale would air on May 13, it appeared likely that there would be fewer episodes, unless Fox were to decide to air two episodes in one night, which is unlikely.
So the big question is, why is the show only airing 20 episodes, given that the first four seasons have all had 22? Well, when a show's episode order gets reduced, that's usually a sign that the network is losing faith in the show. And sure enough, Glee's ratings have taken quite a tumble this season.
But could the news become even more bleak for Season 6? CarterMatt speculates that the show's final season could potentially consist of only 6-13 episodes as serve solely as a way to tie up any loose storylines. Gasp!
We really hope that the shortened Season 5 is just a scheduling snafu, meaning that the show will be back to the normal amount of episodes next season. Then again, the only way to ensure that Fox gives Glee a proper Season 6 is for Season 5 to end with a ratings bang. So make sure to keep watching, everyone!
Are you surprised that Season 5 has been shortened? And how would you feel about a truncated Season 6?
