Pretty Little Liars Season 5, Episode 16: 10 Burning Questions

Pretty Little Liars knocked our socks off with its latest entry: Season 5, Episode 16 (“Over the Barrel”). It had Breaking Bad-esque storage containers, a marriage proposal, and Aria as florist delivery girl. What else could you want from an episode of PLL? Well, how about some answers to these 10 burning questions that left us hungry for next week’s installment?

Who’s trying to frame Hanna for Mona’s murder? The identity of the person who actually rented the storage unit full of Mona’s murder evidence is probably the most pressing question right now. Without the answer, Hanna could be framed for the murder of her former best friend. And, right now, we kind of have no idea who is going to such lengths to make blondie look guilty.

Who snuck into Holbrook’s office? Now, there’s a good chance it was Holbrook who snuck into his own office, given the culprit knew the password for Holbrook’s computer. But, if so, why is Holbrook skulking around his own office? If not, who could it have been and what do they want with Holbrook’s computer? Perhaps this is part of “A”’s epic frame job?

What’s up with new girl Talia? We’re always suspicious of new faces in Rosewood because they’re usually someone’s spy. Talia seems innocent enough. Yes, she is trying awfully hard to get on Emily’s good side, but Em is a very cool person with amazing hair, so that could be a red herring. Regardless of Talia’s “A” game intentions (if she has any), we’re also not sure who, if anyone, Talia might be crushing on. She commented on Ezra’s butt and Emily’s killer looks all in one scene. What is this girl up to?

What’s up with new guy Johnny? Speaking of newbies, Johnny is even more suspicious. Not only did he agree to move into the Hastings’ backyard aka the place where everyone gets murdered but he used to live in Rosewood when he was little. This has “A” game connection written all over it. (Perhaps he was playmates with Ali?)

Will Spencer skip college? Apparently, Johnny is the first person to relay to Spencer that she doesn’t have to go to college. And, guys, she seemed very into the idea. Would Spencer “The Brain” Hastings really not go to college? And, if not, what else would she do? Probably take over the world.

Will Aria ever tell Ezra about her admissions plea? It’s hard to garner up much sympathy for Aria’s plight when Hanna is getting framed for murder. We’re hoping Aria tells Ezra about her college admissions plea sooner rather than later. If only so the poor girl gets some sleep! (Also, so her story arc can move in another direction.)

What will Ashley Marin tell Pastor Ted? Holy drama! Even though Ashley Marin got herself into this predicament herself, we still sympathize with her struggle. Should she accept Ted’s marriage proposal? Should she tell him about her night of passion with Jason? The answer to that last question is “definitely.” We’re still on the fence about that first one, though.

Who sent those texts to Aria? Who sent the texts to Aria pretending to be Holbrook? Was it Holbrook himself? If so, why? If not, who? Could it have been Jason, who wanted to meet up with Aria, but make it seem like coincidence? Could it have been “A,” somehow one small part in her plan to frame the Liars for murder?

Is Mona in that barrel? We’re not sure if we want to know the answer to this, but we kind of have to? Spencer and Caleb suspect Mona’s body might be inside of the barrel in the storage unit. We think we need to know either way. This doesn’t exactly match Mrs. Grunwald’s description of Mona’s burying place, but the psychic can’t be right 100 percent of the time, right?

Is Spoby heading for splitsville? Spencer ignored Toby’s text at the end of the episode — a hint of more problems to come? We totally don’t blame Spence for giving Tobester the cold shoulder. Toby has become very command-y since assuming a role in the Rosewood P.D. Will these two crazy kids work it out, or are Spoby’s days numbered?
