Teen Wolf Losing Tyler Hoechlin as Series Regular in Season 5
We’ve got some bad news for you Sterek shippers out there! Teen Wolf creator Jeff Davis just confirmed to BuzzFeed that Tyler Hoechlin (Derek Hale) won’t be back as a series regular when the MTV series returns this summer to a television screen near you.
"Tyler Hoechlin decided he wanted more time to pursue movies," Davis told the site. "We talked and creatively agreed that maybe this was a good season to refocus on the teens of Teen Wolf, and while he won't be a series regular anymore, I can say that you probably won't have seen the last of Derek Hale. We love him and miss him."
While we’re still a little bummed about Tyler’s downgrade, it is just that. He isn’t leaving the show full-time, he’s just going to be on the show a lot less frequently. We can still expect to see Derek turn up here and there and hopefully when he does he’ll be sharing the screen with Stiles Stilinski (Dylan O’Brien). Rally with us, Sterek fans!
Perhaps this news hits hard because Derek has been a main character since the very first episode and has left a lasting impact on the other characters. It’s usually easier to lose a newish character, but losing an OG always cuts deep. Who could forget how he helped Scott McCall (Tyler Posey) come to grips with his werewolf side? Not us, that’s for sure.
