American Idol

American Idol Season 14 Contestant Joey Cook Is Engaged! (PHOTO)

She may still be competing against a handful of contestants on Season 14 of American Idol, but she’s already won the heart of the man in her life. That’s right, this blue-haired songstress who regularly wows us with her vocals on the television just got engaged to longtime boyfriend Evan Higgins this past weekend — March 26, specifically.

“He planned it perfectly. It was so beautiful,” the 24-year-old told People, dishing about how her 25-year-old beau proposed. “He did it at the hotel [all the contestants have been staying at] with my family there. I’m really close to my family and my mom has only come out to two shows so far. Evan took the time to plan it out so she would be here.” Collective aww, you guys!

The next natural step? Ask to see the bling, of course! Well, turns out Joey said she’d “kill him” if he “spent a lot of money on a ring.” As we could have guessed, this free spirit doesn’t really “see the point” of getting a massive ring. Evan ended up using his mother and father’s engagement band and a diamond from a set of earrings his stepfather gave his mom. Crafty, huh? Joey loves it because it’s “all the family heirlooms sucked into one.”

Joey and Evan — who is nicknamed “Big Evan” — have been dating ever since December 2009 and, as the Idol contestant explains, have “been through a lot of crazy things” together. We’re sure this reality competition TV series is one of the wildest rides ever!

So when will these two crazy kids be getting hitched? Joey says that’ll happen “as soon as [her] life makes sense again and [they] can actually plan things.”

If Joey makes it all the way to the top spot on American Idol, that could definitely be a long time from now. That being said… good luck, Joey!

American Idol airs Wednesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on Fox.
