Kat Graham threw an epic ‘90s party in her music video for “1991” and didn’t invite us — but that’s OK because we’ll just be rewatching all day long. The Vampire Diaries star released her uber-nostalgic music video for her latest single today (April 15) via MTV.com and we’re breaking it down for you guys!
The setting for the “1991” music video is a house party complete with people dancing while wearing jorts, bright jackets, and mesh tops. Everyone seems to be having a grand ol’ time and Kat’s even caught the eye of a hot guy who learns pretty quickly that homegirl is there to bust a move and doesn’t need a man. As MTV.com rightly points out, the jam is a perfect mix of all the best songs from the ‘90s — including the rap mid-song that sounds like it’s straight out of a TLC jam.
“My biggest peeve and worry — I didn’t want people to think, ‘Oh, it’s so kitschy, contrived,” Kat recently told the site about her decision to branch off from Interscope Records after lack of creative control. “No, I produced a record. I wrote the f-king record. I’m putting it out on my label. I’m doing it my way. The whole album is ‘90s-inspired.”
Ummm, we cannot wait! In the meantime, keep this song on repeat all freaking day long.
