The O.C. the Musical Is Coming Out This Summer!

Been shipping Seth and Summer since The O.C. went off air in 2007? Well, your favorite early 2000s Fox show is becoming a musical. California, here we come!

Variety reports that the musical, which will be a one-night event in Los Angeles on August 30, is created and directed by Jordan Ross and Lindsey Rosin — the same team that turned '90s drama flick Cruel Intentions into a musical. In other words, this is going to be good.

Casting for the summer production — pun very much intended — already started, with roles filled for several characters. Perez Hilton reports the following casting news:

Luke Ward: Remember Marissa Cooper's boyfriend, played by Chris Carmack from the early episodes? He's being played by Jersey Boys' Drew Seeley in the musical.

Sandy Cohen: Seth Cohen's dad, played by Peter Gallagher on the series, will be reprised by The Vampire Diaries actor Rick Cosnett in the musical.

Josh Schwartz: The show creator's non-singing role in the musical, will be played by Jarett Wieselman, Senior Editor of Entertainment at Buzzfeed News.

Kirsten Cohen: The role for Seth Cohen's mom, who was played by Kelly Rowan on the series, has been filled by Step By Step and Veronica Mars actress Christine Lakin.

Turning a show or movie into a musical seems to be a theme these days. Along with The O.C., Clueless the musical is also being developed for Broadway. Even Harry Potter is going to the theater, with the upcoming play, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child, coming to London in August 2016.

It looks like Chrismukkah came early with all of this theater news!
