“40 Days of Dating” Bloggers Nab Sweet Movie Deal! Who’s Involved?
Since we first met Jessica Walsh and Timothy Goodman on their “40 Days of Dating” blog, we’ve had mixed feelings. Feelings like “Who dates their FRIEND?” and “This can’t be real!” and, mostly, “Why the hell didn’t I think of this?!” And it seems we’re not the only ones who have been fascinated by their story. Deadline reports that Warner Bros has acquired the concept for a film.
For those unfamiliar, the blog is run by two New York-based designers who have been friends for a number of years. Single at the same time, the pair decided to date one another for 40 days, committing to seeing each other every day, going on three dates a week, seeing a couples therapist, and discussing their experiences via the blog, in writing, art, and film.
While Jessica is a serial monogamist, Timothy is a commitment-phobe who dates tons of girls. Asked why she’s doing the experiment, Jessie says, “All my relationships keep failing. Am I f--king them up, or have I not met the right guy? Tim and I have been friends for years, and we always make fun of each other about our relationship problems. I wonder if putting two people together with opposite issues could help. Plus, these problems seem to be common with many other girls and guys we know, so I want to learn more about love and relationships in an attempt to figure out why."
Deadline reports that a “wild auction” ensued between warring production companies who wanted to acquire the screen rights for “40 Days.” Warner Bros landed the deal over studios and people like Reese Witherspoon and Josh Schwartz (The O.C., Gossip Girl). Michael Sucsy, who directed The Vow and Grey Gardens, as well as a ton of successful commercials, has signed on to direct. The film will be penned by Lorene Scafaria, who wrote the surreal Seeking a Friend For the End of the World and Nick and Norah’s Infinite Playlist.
Among the goods handed over in the deal? Jessica and Timothy’s life rights. The exact figure is unknown, but we are definitely looking forward to seeing our almost idea it come to life. Who do you think should star in the film? Please say Aubrey Plaza.
