5 Reasons Aria Needs to Be Single on Pretty Little Liars

From the looks of next week’s episode of Pretty Little Liars, Aria Montgomery (Lucy Hale) is running away from the remnants of her long-term lover affair with Ezra into the arms of another man, Riley (guest star Nick Roux). We understand the instinct, but here are five reasons why we think Aria should reconsider the rebound and be single for a while.

She Has a Lot to Process

Um, we’re still reeling from the reveal that Ezra has been lying about his entire deal since Day One, so we doubt Aria has processed the entire situation on her drive to Syracuse. Sure, upstate New York is far, but it’s not that far. Aria needs some time to work out how she feels about everything, and to try to get past the pain Ezra has caused her. We’d give it a few months. At least. (And, in PLL time, that’s like an entire season.)

She Can Focus on the Hunt for “A”

Things are getting intense in the hunt for “A.” Now that the Liars are aware that Alison is alive and needs their help, the stakes of the “A” game have risen exponentially. This isn’t just about protecting themselves which, really, were high enough stakes to begin with they also have their frightened not-dead bestie to worry about. Going on dates takes time and energy away from scheming right, Mona? and the Liars need to bring their “A” game right now. (Get it?!)

She May Still Be in Love With Ezra

We’re not saying Aria isn’t intensely hurt by Ezra’s betrayal, and that she doesn’t want to hate him for what he’s done to her, but we’re not sure Aria has fallen out of love with him, either. You can't just turn off those kinds of feelings and, though Aria may be purging Ezra from her heart, she needs some time to let that happen before she can consider letting someone else in. We don’t need another Jake situation.

She Won’t Be Putting a Target on Someone Else’s Back

For the Liars, loving someone means making them a target. They are someone “A” can use against them, or hurt to get a rise out of a Liar. We’re not saying it’s fair, but it’s kind of how it is, and Aria already has enough loved ones to worry about without bringing someone new into the mix. We’re not saying Aria shouldn’t embrace unexpected romantic relationships, but maybe don’t actively seek them out?

She’s Going to College Soon

Potentially, she could even put it off until college. In theory, the Liars are eventually graduating from high school and moving away to their respective post-graduate experiences. That often spells the end for a high school relationship. Paige and Emily are totally dealing with this now (among other things), and it’s put an added stress on their relationship. Is it really worth it for Aria to start dating someone who she probably won’t be with this time next year?

Do you think Aria should stay single for a little while? Why or why not? Sound off in the comments below!
