The Originals: 5 Reasons Klaus and Genevieve Would Make a Great Couple

Genevieve (Elyse Levesque) holds a lot of narrative potential on The Originals. She is the leader of the witches. She has a history with the Mikaelsons. And she may have a romance with Klaus (Joseph Morgan). They shared a strange sort of chemistry when she was telling him the story of Rebekah and Marcel’s betrayal, and it looks like they’ll be sharing a lot more next episode. Here are five reasons why Klaus and Genevieve would make a great couple.

She’s always had a thing for him. We can appreciate a character who appreciates Klaus — because we do too! — and Genevieve has always had a twinkle in her eye for the Original hybrid. In the flashbacks to 1919, we saw her shyly admit to Rebekah that, if she were to go for one of the Mikaelson brothers, it would be bad boy Klaus. Witch had good (if not ill-advised) taste.

We want to see what Klaus looks like in a relationship. We’ve seen Klaus long after Caroline. We’ve seen him develop a quasi-friendship with Cami. We’ve played witness to his complicated sibling-ship with Rebekah and Elijah. But we’ve yet to see what he looks like in a romantic relationship, and we’re eager to explore as many facets of this character as we can.

Their couple name. We love Haylijah and Marbekah as much as the next fan, but their shipper names lack a certain poetry. Klaus and Genevieve, on the other hand, have some interesting choices that we feel might capture the twisted nature of their potential relationship: Klenevieve, Genelaus, Glaus — take your pick! These are all shipper designation gems. You can’t go wrong.

He didn’t kill her. Klaus isn’t the type to wear his heart on his sleeve — at least when it comes to the more positive end of the emotional spectrum. Anger, pain, indignation? He has no trouble getting those across. But his fellow characters have to look a bit closer when it comes to feelings like affection or love. Which is why we’re going to take Klaus’ decision not to kill Genevieve after she told him of Marbekah’s betrayal and released him from the sanitarium chair as an expression of affection, or at the very least, not indifference. Yeah, we know we’re reaching. And we know Klaus was pretty focused on getting to Rebekah at this point, but we still think it counts for something. And, did you see this promo picture?

It might make Haylijah less awkward. One of the chief reasons Elijah and Hayley have fought their attraction for one another is because they are worried how Klaus might react: i.e. jealousy, rage, etc. But, if Klaus were to be distracted with his own burgeoning love life, Haylijah might finally explore their intense feelings for one another, and we’re totally for that. We’ve been waiting months for another pool scene!

Do you think Klaus and Genevieve would make a good couple? Why or why not? Sound off in the comments below!

The Originals airs Tuesday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
