5 Reasons Nina Dobrev Should Win a 2014 People’s Choice Award!

All hail the television gods! Vampire Diaries star Nina Dobrev (Elena Gilbert) is nominated for a 2014 People’s Choice Award for “Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actress”! While the TVD actress already has one win — as a 2012 write-in for “Favorite Dramatic TV Actress” — under her belt, we think she’s due for another. Here are five reasons why we think Nina deserves to win the award at tonight’s ceremony!

Doppelganger duty

Nina and Orphan Black’s Tatiana Maslany might be splitting the doppelganger vote, but we don’t think anyone should discount Nina’s impressive dual portrayals of Petrova doppelgangers Elena and Katherine (and, occasionally, Amara) on TVD.

For more than four seasons, Nina has turned in double the performance, crafting complex characters with distinct personalities, moods, and mannerisms for each of her characters. At this point, she’s played them both in both human and vamp forms, taking her characters through the emotional arcs inherent in such dramatic transitions. Basically, Nina rules the world of television doppelgangers. (Or, at least co-rules with Tatiana.)

Her turn as Katherine

Though we might think of Elena first when it comes to Nina’s on-screen personas, it is arguably in her turn as Katherine this season that Nina is really wowing us. Watching the cracks of vulnerability in a villainess character for four seasons has been so much fun. With a lesser actress than Nina, Katherine’s antics could have long ago become tired, but not with Nina. She manages to make us feel sympathetic for a character who has killed multiple main characters on this show — and is now seemingly dying herself. Impressive much?

Staying power

Just like her fellow nominated co-star Ian Somerhalder, Nina has been playing her character(s) on TVD for more than four seasons — that’s considerably longer than anyone else of the other nominees in her category! Now, that should definitely not be a reason for Nina’s win alone, but it certainly demonstrates her prowess as an actress that she has been able to keep her character(s) new and interesting 99 — almost 100 — episodes of television. After four years, we still love to watch Nina do her thing!

To get a better look at her dress

We’re always eager to see what Nina chooses to wear to these classy events (though we’re pretty sure she could pull off a potato sack), and we’ll definitely be watching at this year’s People’s Choice Awards. Sure, we might get an interview on the red carpet, but we want to see Nina’s dress (or potato sack) in all its glory on the stage.

To support TVD!

In our eyes, a win for any TVDer is a win for all of TVD! We love to support our favorite vampire show, especially when its in the mainstream spotlight (i.e. the world outside of the CW). TVD is also up for “Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Show,” Ian is up for “Favorite Sci-Fi/Fantasy Actor,” and Nina and Ian are up together for “Favorite TV Couple.” Long live the TVD television reign!

Do you think Nina deserves the People's Choice Award? Let us know why or why not in the comments! The People’s Choice Awards airs tonight, January 8, at 9 p.m. ET on CBS.

The Vampire Diaries airs on Thursday nights at 8 p.m. ET on The CW.
