5 Things You Didn’t Know About Mase: Details on the Rapper — and Occasional Pastor! (VIDEO)
At the turn of this century, Mase was on top of the world — as one of the rap world's brightest talents. But then he gave it all up to become a pastor, and only recently has he resumed his music career.
In the video above, we fill you in on five facts you may not know about the Harlem native — but keep reading for more detail on his circuitous career trajectory!
Mase announced his retirement in 1999, telling radio host Funkmaster Flex, "I gotta do what makes me happy. I lot of people are gonna say say I'm crazy, I'm leaving money behind ... But it's just how I feel in my heart."
Over the next decade and a half, Mase developed quite a following — building up churches in Atlanta and Phoenix with thousands of parishioners.
However, in March 2014 TMZreported that Mase's followers had become displeased with his "double life" — i.e. how his rapper lifestyle and divorce proceedings didn't align with the virtues he preached from the pulpit.
Then, in July 2014, the site announced that Mase had left the church and would be pursuing rap full-time.
Now, the 38-year-old has a new single out, "Nothing," featuring Eric Bellinger — with a music video featuring Basketball Wives LA star Malaysia Pargo. We think this latest comeback attempt isn't "nothing," though!
