Our minds are racing after hearing the horrible news that Eric Hill, a contestant on Andi Dorfman’s season of The Bachelorette passed away on April 23 after a paragliding accident.
We haven’t gotten a chance to really meet Eric since Season 10 of The Bachelorette doesn’t return until May and now, after this tragedy, we’ll only know what we see of him on the show. So who was this 32-year-old who caught Andi’s eye enough to land the first 1-on-1 date? Here are five things to know about Eric Hill.
1. Eric’s accident did not occur during filming of The Bachelorette.
Although cameras are still rolling on Season 10, Eric’s paragliding accident did not take place during The Bachelorette. He was in Draper, Utah, at the time of the accident while the show was filming hometown dates around the country.
2. He came from a big family.
Growing up with five brothers and sisters, Eric had a close relationship with his loved ones. They gathered at his side after the accident, when he was put into a medically induced coma. It was his older sister, Karen Tracy, who shared the news of Eric’s passing via her Facebook page.
3. Eric was well-known in the Bachelor community.
Beside his many friends and family members, Eric also ran in the same circles as Jef Holm or Brooks Forester, who encouraged him to audition for The Bachelorette.
4. He had big dreams.
Eric wanted to visit all 195 United Nations-recognized countries in world-record time all while filming a documentary about the experience called The Global Odyssey. He hoped to check all 195 off his list in three years and three months. He made it to 25 starting last year with North Korea.
5. He will be missed.
As Karen said April 23, “He gave us such a gift of a life fully lived and fully shared, and allowed us all to be a part of his last adventure here on earth. It is hard to think of life without his bright spark, but we know he is on to new adventures. We look forward to carrying on his legacy here and greeting him joyfully again someday.”
Our thoughts are with Eric’s family and friends during this difficult time.
