5-Year-Old-Boy Saves His Dad’s Life With His Spelling Skills (VIDEO)

Nathaniel Dancy Jr. saved his dad’s life by using his ABCs.

New York’s NBC Neww 4 reports that a kindergarten student at a New Jersey charter school was driving home with his father when his dad became very ill. It turns out that Dancy Sr. was suffering from a stroke and an aneurysm.

His dad managed to pull over to safety and Nathaniel got his father’s phone and call his grandmother. The boy’s grandmother, Susan Hardy-Blackman, says her grandson told her what was going on and tried to tell her their location by spelling out the letters of the store that they were stopped in front of. He spelled, "F-U-R-N-I-T-U-R-E."

When his grandmother did not immediately know what that meant, Nathaniel gave her some advice, "He said, 'Grandma, use your active listening skills,'" she said. "'Listen to the words that are coming out of my mouth.'" What a smart boy!

Luckily, the quick-thinking Grandma was able to conference in the boy’s mother. Nathaniel then added that they were near a tunnel. They finally figured out he was talking about a store called Furniture 22 on New Jersey's Route 22. 911 was called and an ambulance took Dancy Sr. to the hospital.

In an interview with Yahoo! Shine, the director of operations at North Star Academy, where Nathaniel goes to school, said Nathaniel is "a very caring individual."

Nathaniel’s father remains hospitalized and unable to talk, but he is alive thanks to his son’s quick thinking.
