Amanda Bynes Placed on Involuntary Psychiatric Hold — Update
Update: New footage has been released from the boutique Pookie & Sebastian, giving us a firsthand glance at Amanda Bynes's strange behavior. The short clip on Perez Hilton shows Amanda dancing around the store and grabbing something from her bodyguard. Check out the footage of the odd behavior here. We can't help but wonder what it was her bodyguard handed her.
Original Story: It’s been a harrowing day for Amanda Bynes’s family, but it seems the troubled star will get the psychiatric care she seems to need, whether she wants it or not.
According to TMZ, Amanda’s doctors in L.A. have placed her under a 5150 psychiatric hold, which is a court-ordered involuntary 72-hour psychiatric evaluation. This news comes after Amanda made some disturbing accusations against her father, which she later recanted, writing, “The microchip in my brain made me say those things but he's the one that ordered them to microchip me.”
This isn’t the first time the Easy A actress has undergone a 5150 hold — in July 2013, she was ordered into doctors’ care after setting fire to her parents’ driveway. While we don’t know what specific circumstances led to this second commitment order, a 5150 hold may only be obtained if the patient is believed to be an immediate danger to herself or others. Amanda was last seen in public at LAX, where she seemed visibly disoriented.
This story is developing, and we will update as new details emerge. In the meantime, our thoughts are with Amanda and her family as they work with her doctors to help her get healthy again.
