TV is a tough medium for storytelling. Most shows are subject to the ever-changing whims of the viewing public. Some drag on well past their prime because the people want more, while others are cut short because not enough people caught on. Plus, writers have to contend with network interference, actors leaving the show, and other obstacles that come before pure storytelling vision.
As a result, sometimes showrunners have a perfect ending for their story in mind that doesn't make it to screen for one reason or another. And that? Can be really frustrating for fans. But at least it's interesting to speculate about what could have been!
To that end, here are nine examples of shows that didn't end the way the writers had originally hoped.
