90210 Actress Opens Up About Sexual Assault: “I Was Suicidal” After
We’re use to seeing dramatic storylines on shows like 90210, but we never expect trauma like that to come to our favorite actors and actresses in real life. AnnaLynne McCord, who starred as Naomi Clark, recently shared her story of surviving sexual assault.
“I was suicidal; I cut my arms up,” the 26-year-old told audience members at the Somaly Mam Foundation Life Is Love Gala as reported by InTouch. The annual event, hosted in New York City on October 23, raises money for the anti-slavery and anti-trafficking nonprofit.
AnnaLynne has previously spoken of the sexual assault that left her wanting to die.
“I had a very similar experience to what these girls go through 20 times a night,” she shared during last year’s event. “It happened to me once by somebody that I knew, and it is a very interesting thing to feel that you do not have the voice to say ‘no.’ It wasn't an attack or anything like that — I just had no voice. I did not know how to say, ‘I don’t want this. Please do not do this to me.’”
The assault took an emotional toll on AnnaLynne, she told this year’s gala attendees: “I had a bottle of pills in a hotel and I was ready to end it all. But something, I don’t know what, led me [to] Somaly Mam.” A sex slavery survivor from Cambodia, Somaly Mam created the foundation to address the global problem.
AnnaLynne has long worked with the Somaly Mam Foundation, calling the young women she has met “heroes” and asking gala guests to support “the people who rescued me.”
